Volunteering

wauneurad scrub

The donations of people times and commitment is key to the nature conservation sector. Volunteers have always been at the corner stone of taking actions for rare species and monitoring populations across these islands.

There are a range of opportunities for volunteers to get involved in supporting our projects on the ground and coast. Examples of these include:

  • Beach cleans with MCS
  • Bee walks with Bumbleebee Conservation Trust
  • Chough monitoring with RSPB Cymru
  • Lichen surveys with Plantlife and NRW
  • River fly surveys with Buglife
  • Building bat boxes with Vincent Wildlife Trust
  • Acoustic monitoring for bats with Bat Conservation Trust

Please visit our project webpages via the interactive map to view which projects are taking place near you. You can contact the project teams direct to enquire about volunteer opportunities.

Managing your land

staff in the field

Across the country, our project officers are working with land managers and land owners, helping them manage their land in a way that benefits rare species and sustainable farming. If you believe your land hosts one of our 67 target species we would love to hear from you.

We can offer advice on how you can be managing your land for biodiversity, including opportunities for management agreements with Natur am Byth. Please get in touch with your local project by visiting our interactive map to view the areas where our programme is active or view our target species list.

Managing your sea

Porthdinllaen Beach

In Natur am Byth, Marine Conservation Society is taking action for three target species in Welsh coastal waters – seagrass, pink sea fan and native oysters. We are also working with citizen scientists to increase monitoring efforts for water quality in small freshwater streams that enter coastal waters.

If you own seabed, or have access to areas where one of our three marine target species occur, then we would love to hear from you. Please visit the Project Môr page for more information on our project activities in Welsh coastal waters.
